How Do You Choose Baby Clothes?

Families with new or very young babies are generally faced with the dilemma of what to buy for their baby to wear. How do you choose baby clothes when they are growing so fast and clothes can work out to be expensive when they may only be worn a few times before they no longer fit?

Stores that sell baby clothes generally have a pretty good layout for their items with sizes clearly marked according to age. This is fine if you have a baby that conforms to the norm in sizing, but what if yours happens to be growing faster than usual and is already too big for many of the clothes for their age?

Well, you have to shop a little clever here and really take each item that you have in mind to buy and hold it up so you can see its physical size. It helps if you can have your baby with you while you’re doing this as you can then get a really good idea of how well it will fit. But not all babies are good in stores and if yours is of the kind that loves to scream the place down and totally embarrass you, then you are more likely to be leaving baby at home with the grandparents and shopping on your own! Then you have to have a mental image of how big your baby is when looking at the clothes.

One clever idea is to take baby’s measurements before you go to the store and take a tape measure with you so you can measure the clothes before you buy them. Of course color and texture of the material is important as you want the softest material against baby’s skin and nothing that might irritate or itch as baby can’t tell you if they are being irritated by their clothes apart from crying.

Perhaps if your baby is a store screamer, you might need to take a look at how comfortable their clothing feels just in case a big part of the crying is down to not being comfortable! But at the end of the day, you need to choose the clothes for your baby with a lot of patience and forethought if you want to end up with items that will not only fit well, but have a least a month or two of growing space in them and feel nice against their skin. Then you will have made a sensible purchase that will at least give you some value for the money you spent.
